13 months today!

I just realized that Serif is 13 months today. All the haste of the holiday weekend and the getting back in the groove of work has left my mind everywhere but on this little fact. I have a photo that I will post that I took of him tonight.

Some things that he's been doing this month are:

Walking with confidence and very briskly.

He has learned (from his 'Art' book that we bought him for his birthday) where his eyes are. Is still a little hit or miss on the nose and ears, but doing better.

He just started saying "uh-oh" this weekend. He dropped a toy from the changing table and I said "Uh-oh!" and he looked at me and grunted "Uhhh". After several repeats he started picking it up and that's about all he said all weekend! His "oh" sounds a litle English (like European English), it's funny.

He loves saying 'Dada".

I caught him pushing his push toy this weekend and when he ran in to the stereo, he pulled that toy up and around and kept on going. I never even saw a transition!

He loves looking at photos and pointing as you say who everyone is.

He also has found our 3 mirrored coat hooks, one with Jesus, one with a bird and one with a skull.

He has also started wearing shoes . . . yes, just now. Most are either ugly or too expensive (many both).

He stilll loves iti outside, in a stroller, his new wagon or just walking around or swinging. He's starting to get a little impatient swinging on the porch swing or rocking, he wants down to discover everything!

Eats dinner at 5:30, bath around 6:30 or 7:00, then goes to bed around 7:30. He is finally sleeping until 6-6:30 rather than 4:30-5:30. He stopped nursing about 2 weeks ago and did very well!

Still has 8 teeth, but has had spells of acting like there may be more on the way!

Just to clarify these photos that daddy so quickly posted. . .

Every Christmas, my work adopts 2 families from the Nashville Rescue Mission and anyone that wants to help can buy gifts for these family members. My ornament this year read, " 1 year old girl - wish is clothing'. I was so excited to shop for her. Since having a little one of my own I realize how quickly they grow out of stuff and also how expensive it is to continuously buy a new wardrobe. We are very blessed to be able to buy Serif things and especially blessed that we can share some of this spending with a little girl in need. Thank you Lord!

This little coat was on sale for 50% off at Old Navy on Friday and I just had to get it for her. I have no idea what she may have so I tried to hit on every item. Pajamas, outfits, a few items from the dollar bin at Target, and I still need socks and shoes for her. Since this little girl is the same age as Serif, I just had to try it on him to see if it would fit her. We were all good sports about daddy taking his picture in a pink suede coat and furry bunny hat. This little girl and her family will greatly appreciate all our family's effort in getting this little girl just what she needs for winter.

Raaarrrrrrr!

I feel like one giant GERM! I've been quarantined to the house. I can't drive, go to work nor should I be out and about shopping (other than getting my prescription this afternoon). I've Lysoled every handle/pull in the house. I have my own soap at every sink. I wash my hands every 2 minutes and dry with my own towel. I can't let Serif or Jeff around my face. I'm not suppose to touch Serif around the eyes, nose, mouth or hands . . . yeah, hands. hmmm. The doctor even told me I shouldn't be hugging on either of the boys. Well, MY! What's a girl to do?

I'm constantly paranoid to touch anything of Serif's or to even share this computer with Jeff. Dinner was weird that I couldn't give my scraps to the dog or that I was even afraid to wash Serif's spoon or make him a sippy cup. I think I'm going to explode! Oh, but wait, then that would REALLY be a mess to clean up and the house would have super germs everywhere for real! hehehe.

So all you cats out there give a little shout out to our Lord that this will kick very quickly. It's going to be a LONG 3-5 days! Oh, and does anyone have a giant bubble I can borrow? I'll lysol it before giving it back . . .if i don't run out by then. =) Peace out, I'm going to bed.

Walking - Take One

I have another video that I really wanted to post, but it's too large and I'm having trouble getting it down to size to put it on here. Here's a quick little silent film of the little guy walking. His arms pretty much stay up as he walks and he gets this little slide shuffle going. So cute. Sort of penguin like right? Just like Daddy. =)

The back door - Chapter One

As most of you know by now, a lot goes on at our living room back door. We have this love/hate relationship with this hackberry tree in our back yard. We love the shade and coziness it gives, but hate all the black mess it leaves everywhere. This particular Saturday, Jeff was on the deck cleaning the patio furniture and I was inside tidying the house and keeping watch over Serif. It didn't take him long to discover that Daddy was just out the window so he had to go see him and find out what all the noise was about. Not only did this make Serif content for a little while, but the back door got a much needed cleaning as well. Bonus!

A Visit to the Pied Piper Creamery

I had the day off of work on Thursday due to the death of one of our Principals at my firm. It was day 3 of a sore throat for me and day 1 of Serif feeling warm (no temperature until that evening). We had to get out of the house and the weather outside was unbelievable. Perfect for a walk to the neighborhood creamery. I also was in need of some thank you notes for Serif's birthday. The Creamery is located in an old house that is shared with a little retail/gift business. A perfect place to go to support the local business, fill my tummy and mailbox too! So I packed up the boy and his diaper bag and we headed out.

Upon arriving at the Creamery, Serif spotted this little blue horse. He immediately wanted on.

He is walking pretty well now and was all over the place in there!

He sat in the floor and played while I ordered our ice cream.
Banana-Fanna-Fo-Pudding . . . YUM!

He loved these alphabet magnet letters on the face of the freezer. Fortunately we were the only ones there so he wasn't in the way. I did have to get him a couple of times later when someone came in.

Jenny, the owner of the Creamery, has a son that's about a year older than Serif. She has the place decked out with all kinds of fun stuff for kids. It was so nice that Serif was able to go and enjoy everything while I ate all the ice cream! Heehehee.

I did share . . . see. =)

Once we finished the ice cream, we packed up and went back home. We both enjoyed the walk and the hour away from the house. Since Serif was asleep when we got home, I parked him on the front porch and swung on the front porch swing until he woke up. Ahhhh, how relaxing. And what a nice break. When he woke up we pulled out the typewriter and typed up some thank you's. Those should be coming to a door near you . . . soon. One more thing I need to catch up on. Hmmm.

Silly Laughter

Serif just started laughing like this just a couple of weeks ago. He's hilarious! He thought it was funny to peek at me from either side of my iphone as I videoed him. He primarily laughs like this when he's walking with a walker toy and gets to the end of his route. He can't steer those toys yet and he waits for someone to come help turn him around so he can keep going. He doesn't tire easily. =) Anyways, his laughter changes when you tickle him or he finds something really funny. We'll have to get video of that next. I think this one is more of a laugh to get attention. It works . . . and we laugh with him. Yeah, go ahead, see if it's not contagious.

A gorgeous November Sunday

Last weekend was gorgeous! When we got home from church, Jeff let Serif walk to the door with him. It was a sight to see. My heart sunk a little as I watched him walk, but it also swelled with this overflowing love. He's growing up so quickly!

A Birthday gift from Grandpa

All of those one dollar bills stacked up at the Toys R Us last week. Serif picked out the perfect toy to keep at Grandpa's house. Thanks Grandpa!!!

Fall Leaves

Stuck in the Stereo

This is Serif's latest thing. He's been learning how to get our attention and seems to have quite a load of fun doing it. I've posted before about how much he loves the old stereo from my childhood. Well, here he is discovering even more fun things about it . . . the 8-track opening.

This has been so funny for me to watch him do this. His hand does get stuck but he loves for us to come rescue him. I think he does it most when we're preparing dinner or when he's frustrated that we put him down to play and leave him (instead of us playing with him). Oh boy, we're learning! Anyways, I had to capture this on video and in order for me to do it, I had to let him keep doing it. So, for the sake of video, I let go of the discipline for a minute. He's a hoot!

For the record, I've seen him pull his hand out of this thing when I wasn't coming right away so I know he doesn't always get stuck. However, on the flip side, I've also seen him truly stuck. Oh the drama!

Halloween 2009

We've waited a long time for Halloween in the 'hood'. This year was the first year we were able to enjoy it and that we did. Here's our story of our day.

We relaxed through the morning and then decided to go to the 5-points area. We read on the East Nashville ListServ that there were lots of things going on for the afternoon. We dressed Serif up in his vampire costume and took him down to get his free scoop of ice cream from the Pied Piper Creamery. When we got there, they took his picture to hang on their wall and let him pick out what ever flavor he wanted. He went for the Banana-Fanna-Fo-Pudding flavor. YUM!

Once we got our ice cream, we headed over to Arthouse Gardens where they were holding a costume contest for the kiddos. While we waited on the contest to begin, Jeff grabbed us some lunch from the I Dream of Weenie and we sat outside on the benches at Arthouse and waited for it to begin. Once the contest began, Serif participated and won a $15 gift certificate to the local Fairy Tales bookstore!


A little insight on the contest. There were 6 prizes to be given away and 6 families showed up. There were 1-3 kids per family and the judges were beside themselves with who to choose. Two sisters were both dressed alike as Harry Potter Hobbit. How do you pick one and not the other? So, they decided that each family would get a prize and the kids in the family would have to share the gift. Now, lucky for Serif, he's the only kid in this family so he can pick whatever he wants. =)

After a great time at 5-points, we decided to head to my sisters house to see what was going on out their way. We also wanted them to see him in his costume. It had been a while since we've seen them and needed to get our Demonbreun fill. They gave Serif his birthday present and we had a lot of fun.

It had been a while since we had seen my dad, so after Aunt Gerrie's, we went to see Granddaddy. Serif had a ball playing with the walking toys and enjoyed spending time with his Granddaddy. Our goal for the day was to be back in our neighborhood to walk our neighborhood streets. The Eastland Street area is known for it's over the top decor and frightful fun. The streets were swamped with people and the big, old beautiful houses were wonderfully decorated along with lots of friendly halloween spirit. Serif slept most of the walk, but we had a great time seeing everyone trick-or-treating and having fun. It was well worth making it back for and well worth the years of waiting.

So now that Serif is 1 year old, Jeff and I decided to close out Serif's blog in order to create his first year book. This new 'Godby' blog is open to more than just focus on Serif, but rather, the entire Godby family. I'm sure Serif will still be primary focus, but we just wanted to open it up a little more. We hope you still enjoy everything. It's really just our way of journaling and keeping up with things that are going on in our lives. Happy reading!
