Dinner Quote

I made some really wonderful fajitas and rice tonight for dinner. I tried a new recipe for both, each having lime in it. I normally do a packet of fajita seasoning that has a spice to it so serif will typically get a cheese quesadilla when I fix this. Since this recipe wasn't spicy, I made his plate just like ours.

The rice recipe had lime and cilantro, like Qdoba. I scooped some plain rice out before adding those ingredients in case he didn't like it (I knew I was risking the entire dinner for him).

He ate half of his quesadilla. This surprised me but I was glad because I wasn't fixing anything else special for him. Before he left the table, I asked if he'd tried each rice (I gave him a scoop of each). He said he did but he didn't like it. I told him thank you for trying both. Then he said, "I didn't like them but I forgive you." I looked at him and smiled and said okay. He then said, "I forgive you for making the wrong kind of rice I don't like."

First Lottery Pull

Well, today was the big day for Davidson County lottery schools. The first pull happened today. We signed Serif up for three schools: Lockeland (2 blocks from our house and obvious first choice), Dan Mills (still in East Nashville but about a 10 minute drive) and Eakin (in Hillsboro Village, about a 15-20 minute drive).

We just checked to see which (if any) Serif got in to and the winner is . . . Eakin. Yep, the one furthest away, completely out of our neighborhood and bottom of our list. We are grateful that he got in to at least one of the schools but so disappointed that it wasn't the one in our back yard.

He landed sixth on the waiting list for Lockeland and Dan Mills. Jeff is peeved but I don't think it's too bad. I mean 6 is a low number right? Well, we'll see. We accepted the position at Eakin but still keeping our fingers crossed for the next pull in March.

As much as we love our neighborhood. It really takes a lot of the romance out when you can't walk your kid to the school that is just 2 blocks from your house. The school that we hear all the kids on the playground when we go outside our house in the afternoons. The school named after our neighborhood and the original spring sits about 50 yards from our back deck. So disappointed.

Well, all we can do at this point is pray the next pull goes better. There are several more before the school year starts. We'll be prepping our house for the last minute "for sale" sign and searching the real estate apps for the next phase of our lives. Praying for God's direction, 'cause we sure don't know what it is right now. 2014 is going to be a very interesting year.

The calendar was tough to locate on the website so I'm posting this :
March 26 - 2nd pull letters mailed
May 28 - 3rd pull letters mailed
July 2 - 4th pull letters mailed
Final will be the first week of school.

Nerve racking.

Power Nap

Serif, I need a power nap.

What's a power nap?

It's a short nap that gives you energy again and makes you feel good. Do you want to take one with me?

Mmmmm . . . no, I have enough power.

(I just woke up to this . . . )

Serif was being really quiet so I went to check on him. He had the iPad in his bottom bunk. I asked him what he was doing and he said, "I'm just watching Bugs Life. It was paused from the other day and so I just started it from there. But its only the middle part of it. So . . . don't worry, it won't be too long."

Playing for baby

Serif wanted to play Candyland this morning. After winning 3 games in a row he decided to shake things up. He decided since we had 4 player pieces that the he wanted to play for baby too. So he chose blue for him and red for baby. And the winner is . . . Daddy!

Making Pies

I was cleaning up the kitchen this morning when I suddenly hear, "Pies! Pies for sale! 50 cents a pie!" When I got in the bathroom to check out these pies I asked what kind of pie it was, he said, "fish and frog pie!"

I responded with an "Eeewww!" He then assured me that it was okay and was good because it didn't have any of the blood or skeleton in it. It was just the meat and it was cooked.
