Sigh . . .

The worst part is, the house just got cleaned this weekend. It looks really good actually. Minus the floors not being polished.

New Passtime

I just signed Serif up for ABCmouse.com. It is amazing! He absolutely loves it and can spend forever on there! The good thing for me is I know he's learning and I can get things done!

Today he received enough points to earn a dragon costume for his avitar. 10 minutes later he hollers to me, "look how strong this dragon costume makes me!" I went to look and saw that he placed everything in his "room" on his hand so it looked like he was lifting it all. Hilarious! And creative I might add.

The program has everything covering all subjects. When he finishes different games/worksheets, etc, he earns points that he can spend in their pretend stores. He has a room that he can place everything in. It's such a great learning tool and reward system that doesn't require anything from us. Nice. Very glad I signed up.

It was so nice out today that we had to get out and enjoy it. I went straight to the chalkboard and started to draw a dragon. Serif just watched in wonder of what it was going to be. When he realized what it was, he got really excited and wanted us to draw buildings on fire next. So that's just what we did. (The toy is one he just picked up at a consignment sale so he's been glued to it.)

A day outside

Monday turned out to be a nice day for going out. It was still a bit cooler than expected but warmer than it's been lately. We started out at the Shelby playground a few blocks from our house then made our way to the school playground (a few blocks in the opposite direction). We were there about 20 minutes when it started to rain. We had to head home and had two choices: we could go back the way we came (at the street) or go back through the woods. We chose the woods thinking it would also act as a canopy to some extent.



Our community has been working on cleaning up this area since it was donated to Shelby park a couple years ago. It's where the original Lockeland Spring and spring house are located that our neighborhood was named after. It's really turning out to be a great area to explore. Serif loves playing back there.

If you look in the background, our house in the upper center of the photo. You can see there is still plenty of privacy for us. We were originally very concerned about losing that when the park got the property. The two photos below are showing him on our actual property that starts the woods from our backyard.






Below shows the spring that starts back here and flows through Shelby golf course and park.








We found a heart shaped leaf that we had to get his picture with. The tree below is very interesting. It is hollow all the way up. Almost like it was 3 trees that grew together. When Serif saw it he said it looked like where Frankenstein sleeps. He then described a coffin. He loves Halloween! Ha!


After the woods and over 2-1/2 hours of being outside, he wanted to go to the golf course. So we did.



As much as we love sledding down these hills it's nice to have some warmer weather to enjoy.





He went straight for the water where we typically find golf balls but today we found a crawdad!






What a fun day exploring and enjoying the weather. It was nice to get out.

Valentines

Our valentines day has been a week long process. Tuesday, we decided to make valentine sugar cookies for Wednesdays bible study. Serif wasn't too interested in making the dough this time but once it was ready to roll out, he jumped right in.




Once the cookies had cooled he helped decorate them. The above cookie turned out to be his favorite one that he did. He said, "Mommy, I like this one so much that I don't think we should ever eat it." I told him that we could take a picture of it do he could always remember it. He loved the idea and consumed the cookie within minutes after that.




Thursday, we worked on some worksheets: the letter V, the number 13 since it was the days date and also the calendar and his name.







He was very proud of his work and wanted me to take a picture to send to daddy at work. He also helped to put together his Lego guy the night before so he was really enjoying that also.



Since he had his Lego guy back (from being in parts in his Lego box) he really wanted to get this coordinating guy. It's a pair that you can combine to make one big guy. I had to go to the Carter store at Opry Mills anyways to pick up some hangers (I'm preparing his old clothes for a consignment sale). The Lego store is practically next door so I let him pick out a guy for Valentines day. They ended up not having the guy he wanted, it's discontinued. But he found this guy instead. He was so exited that we sat in the food court and put him together. Then enjoyed some lunch before running more errands.



Today, Valentine's day, he wanted to work with his lab kit he got for Christmas. He loves food coloring, baking soda and vinegar. They make the best potions. I couldn't resist this photo. It looked more like he'd just undergone some major surgery.






After the lab experiments, he had a dentist appointment for a cleaning. All went well. We shopped a little at the consignment store next door then grabbed lunch and headed to Grandaddy's (a special request Serif made for valentines day). To Serif's most pleasant surprise, Manny and Integrity were there. Their mom, Crystal, has been in the hospital all week so dads been watching the kids. They played all day, literally. Around 5:00 he decided he wanted to spend the night. He wasn't really prepared but since they're so close in size they let him use some of their pajamas. He had his toothbrush from the dentist that morning and his clothes weren't dirty at all since he wore a costume most of the day there. I think this is the first time he's spent the night there. So glad that he has so much fun with them. Hopefully their night goes well. They were watching Wall-E when I left.






I did run to the store before leaving to get toothpaste. I couldn't resist getting them these glow sticks to play with for the evening. At a buck a piece, it's cheap fun entertainment . . . and they loved them!



Update: all went well. They all slept with their glow sticks and they are going for round 2 tonight! One more night at Grandaddy's! Ha!

Serif has a coloring page every Sunday at church. This is the second week in a row that he has drawn "haunted houses" on the back of his sheet.
