About the card . . .

This Christmas Santa gave Serif an elf. Now this isn't just any old elf off the shelf, but a very special little elf that was born right here in our very own neighborhood. As a matter of fact, he even helps in a workshop right here in East Nashville! The elf's name is Edward.

Santa told Serif that Edward will come to visit him every Christmas to ensure that he is being good enough for Santa to deliver all the wonderful gifts that he and the elves have made and picked out just for him. Most of us know that Santa is so busy and has so many people to keep up with that he needs a little help keeping track with who is being naughty and who is being nice.

Serif was tickled to receive such a special gift from Santa. He couldn't wipe the smile off his face when Santa handed him Edward. Serif gave Edward a big squeeze and told Santa, "Thank you Santa Claus!"; such a good little boy.

Matching Tattoos!

. . . with mommy! Unlike his dad, this us as extreme as I get. Serif put his washcloth on my arm and started counting. I asked if he wanted a tattoo and went and got one. When I came back he wanted, "Mommy do it?". So, once he helped with mine, then he wanted one. Interestingly enough, we had two of the same! Well, almost, mine says "rock and roll" and his says "thrashman". Hehe.

Serif's Two!!!

An Evening with Evan & Cora Grace

We were graced with the presence of Evan and Cora Grace last week while their parents went to the Predator's game. We had more fun that night and absolutely LOVED keeping them! Thank you Lila and Michael for allowing us to watch them! Remember us any time you need another night out!

Serif was in LOVE with Cora Grace. The first 10 minutes was filled with sweet nothings from him to her. He was so gentle with her and would pat her forehead and bottoms of her feet and would just smile and say, "Cora Grace!" (with a sweet head tilt and eyes lit up.)

The boys loved jumping . . . ALL evening! They were hilarious! They had more fun running around and jumping than anything else. The did play with toys in the playroom too, but I think jumping was more fun. =)

Although Cora couldn't join in, she had lots of fun watching them and just hanging out with us.

I LOVE these photos! You can see Evan mid-air as Serif's keeping tabs with the game and checking out the tree.

The boys each got a tattoo . . . of which we decided to surprise the parents with. It was a hit!

Then we had a little "quiet time" in Serif's room for a few minutes. Cora loved Serif's Serif's glow-worm and lighting in his room and the boys loved Cora Grace. =)

I think Cora really liked Serif too . . . I mean, look at that smile when he kissed her! Heehee.

Firehouse Photos - Age 2 (Coming Soon!)

Well, I'm reserving this spot for the Firehouse Photos of Serif. When he turned one, we decided that we were going to take his picture in front of the East Nashville Firehouse (located a couple blocks from our house) around his birthday each year. I really want to post the 2 year old ones with the 1 year old ones, but the 1 year ones are on our other computer and I really need to get to bed. Got that?

Anyways, I'll try to get to it this week. This photo was taken on our way to the firehouse. It's not 100% clear, but I love it anyways. Thanks to Lila for the great haircut! You are amazing!

I just posted the photos in a separate post. Here are a few more photos of the walk to and from the firehouse.

Meet the Godby's

Toddler bed!

Serif was such a great helper. Thanks to Lindsay for all the handy tools she got him for his birthday. They were perfect for this and he never felt like we were gipping him. He loved being able to help!

This was taken at bedtime that night.

We converted Serif's crib to a toddler bed last Friday. Yes, I about cried. He's done so well in it. He even laid there for an hour last Sunday for a nap, never went to sleep (which is rare) but also never got out of the bed.

Last night Jeff had him walk over and get in his bed by himself and he did it! Tonight was his normal routine with me but when the last book was read and the light went out, he crawled out of my lap and went to his bed. It was so sweet. I really am amazed at how well he's doing with all of this. We feel very blessed to have such a great little guy.

Update: November 28, 2010

After about a week of this very pleasant experience, he decided he didn't like this bed after all. It was like a switch flipped in his mind suddenly that he had the freedom to get in and out and perhaps he had the choice of whether he wanted to go to bed or not? It's been 2 weeks of extra long bedtime stories and screaming and crying when he had to go to bed. The only way we could keep him there is to close the door and lock it (per the doctor's recommendations, so he'll know he has to stay in his room). It's been so hard to let him go to bed that distraught, but we know it's what we have to do and this too shall pass.

Well, I think the doctor was right when he said to close his door for a couple weeks; I think things are finally starting to calm back down and get back to normal. Jeff put him to bed last night and there were no tears at all. Tonight I put him down just like the old days and he went down quietly and let me cover him up. I didn't even shut the door. It was so peaceful and left my heart swelling. I'm so much happier to see him at peace and happy and going to bed relaxed. We are very grateful to see this again.
