Tonight - Easter

It's bedtime. We read our stories, prayed and cuddled. I kissed his cheek and told him goodnight as I always do before I head to bed myself. He squeezed me and said, "But I'm afraid you're going to leave and be with Jesus."
A large breath with worry hit then reality of no guarantees. Then feeling incredibly blessed to have all the time that I do have with him.
To preface this, it is Easter Sunday and I am leaving for a business trip tomorrow and won't be back until late Thursday. A lot of talk about Jesus dying on the cross, me being gone and today . . . He's Alive! Before laying down, I asked him if he remembered what today is and instead of "It's Easter!" He said, "Jesus is Alive!!!" Quite surprised and proud I am thankful for our church and his wonderful teacher, Mrs. Kelly. He adores her and learns so much from her. So thankful he's being taught the truth.
After I said the prayer, he asked me if Jesus was God. I told him yes but that God was Jesus' daddy. too. He said, "Jesus has two daddies! God and Joseph!" Ha! Yep, I guess so!

Grapefruit

Serif wanted to try grapefruit tonight so I gave him a small bite. His face tightened and he shook his head at its potency and then asked for a really big bite! I gave him a big bite and he ate it right away and said he liked it! I was cutting up the rest for a fruit salad I was preparing for tomorrows breakfast. He came in the kitchen and saw the other half of the grapefruit and asked if we could juice it. We did and he drank it like orange juice! I really didn't expect him to like it. It took years for me to like it. He certainly surprised us tonight but glad he likes it! We'll be buying more now that I have someone to share it with. :)

Tonight's prayer

Jesus keep us safe and keep the monsters away. Jesus, kill the bad monsters and the sharks. Kill the sharptooths (reference from Land Before Time) and the octopuses and the monsters and the dinosaurs but only the mean dinosaurs. Amen.

Darth Vader

Serif came home from school Friday talking about a light saber. He asked if we could go to the store to get him one. I said no but we could try to make one. I found thick cardboard roll from gift wrap and we lucked up with red tissue paper and foil. (He kept asking for a red one.) We were able to roll it up and tape it off with painters tape and he loves it! Totally better than the one at target. ;)




After making his light saber, i surprised him with this costume. I got it at consignment last year for $4 and then put it up for while since I knew he wasn't much in to that yet. It has an actual suit too but he wasn't wearing it in this photo. He was giddy when I showed it to him and he even wore it the Waffle House Saturday on our way to swim lessons. Later he said, "Mommy, on share day I want to dress up in this and be a giant Darth Vader toy."

Reward

Serif has been saving his quarters for 2 months now to earn a bumblebee rescue bot. Jeff made his this chart and each box he checks off he gets a quarter. He's earned each box by following instruction, minding his manners, taking his plate to the counter after dinner, brushing his teeth for the full 2 minutes, etc.


Saturday, he got to mark off his last box after doing such a great job in his swim lesson. He was so excited to FINALLY get the toy he's been wanting. He even payed for it by himself with his snack-sized baggie of quarters.


He is so proud of himself and we are proud that he has done all he has to earn it.

"S"

Every day Serif has to sign in for school. Every day he gets his "S" backwards. This is Serif's weekly homework. It's a letter to practice on one side then a picture to color on the other. He was feeling very colorful this week. He normally only chooses one color . . . sometimes two. He did really great on his practice letters and even his name but even after all that practice, he still flips the "S" in his name. Ha! But a nice job still I must say.

Super Serif . . . from Saturn!

This week at school they are learning about the letter "S": S is for Space! To make this week a little more special they all got to dress like an alien and choose a planet they are from. So this is Super Serif from Saturn! And he got to bring Sentinel to school with him too for his "S" share toy. It's a good day!
Thank you Lila for making him this "S" shirt and for the mask. I sewed glow in the dark stars on there from his bedroom wall to go with the space hero theme. :) Jeff added his touch with Serif's favorite thing . . . painters tape!

I was able to get Grant and Serifs picture after school today. They had so much fun today!

Jeff: That would be called bald.
Serif: What daddy?
Jeff: Bald is when you don't have hair on your head. It's called bald.

Who I'm going to marry

Lately, Serif has been coming up with girls he's going to marry. It all started when one of his friends claimed him as her price and who she was going to marry. Tonight as we cuddled in the bed after stories he said, "I'm going to marry someone not in my class. Do you know who it is?" I was expecting him to say Lilli (the girl mentioned above), but instead he said, "I'm going to marry you! Daddy already married you but that's okay. I'm going to marry you too!"
