Painting closets

We are in the process of installing new closet systems for the nursery and Serif's room. We have finally cleared out everything and started painting. We finally finished painting the nursery closet tonight with great help from a special little helper.

Morning Quote

Serif called me to his room this morning and when I got there I saw this. He was hiding in his pillows and animals and the quilt was in the floor. I asked him how the quilt got there and he shrugged and said, " I don't know." I asked if he did it last night (he came to our room at some point late). He said no. I them asked if he just did it this morning. He said no. I asked, @well then how did it get there?" He replied, "I guess the Undertaker must have done it."
(He and Jeff have been really get in to wrestling lately.)

SORRY!

We got to go see Ms. Lila yesterday for Serif's haircut and she completely surprised us with gifts! She didn't know if she'd see us again before the baby came so she went shopping on her lunch hour for us. So sweet! She got the baby two super cute outfits and Serif this Sorry game. He loves it! We have already played it so many times and it's only been one day! Thank you Lila for being so sweet and thoughtful and for your fabulous haircuts and friendship!!! XOXO

Dan Mills

We just found out Serif got in to Dan Mills! Good news! It's still not our top priority but it's next on the list and at least on our side of town. Feeling good!

He's still 5 on the wait list for Lockeland. Still hoping!

Perspective

Serif and I went closet system shopping today. We caught the beginning of rush hour traffic on our way home and this guy was riding in shoulder to pass cars. I got frustrated and made a comment. Serif asked what happened and I told him that guy was breaking the rules and making bad choices. Serif quickly responded with, "Well, Jesus still loves him." Yep, it snapped me into place real quick. He's so right. His class was just talking about that this past week. So thankful for our church and his wonderful teachers.

First Real Bandage

Serifs first night sleeping in a bandage. He was putting away his toys and dropped his wooden sword on his foot. It was immediate tears and it looks like it's going to leave a pretty good bruise too. He wanted me to document this and send it to people so they'd know. ;)

Serif got his quarterly wildlife magazine today (compliments of Uncle Don). I showed him the cover of this beautiful fawn. He just stared at it a minute as I pointed out little things about it, like its eyelashes and pretty white spots on its back. Then he said, "I hope Uncle Don doesn't kill it."

Meet Beary

Every time I go to a consignment sale (which is once in spring and once in fall usually), Serif gets to pick out a toy. Today was half price day at the Brentwood YMCA and so I took him to see what they had. He immediately spotted a transformer looking guy and wouldn't out it down. He loved it. So I had him hold on to it while I looked through the clothes. As I neared the end, he saw this pull string bear laying on the girls toy table. He was instantly hooked to thing and told me that we needed to get it for the new baby. I told him we didn't need it and to put it back then sort of blew him off. I went back to looking at clothes when I feel his head rub against my stomach. I look down and he's standing there with the bear. Once again I told him I'd rather not get it and said we'd find another one. As I was talking I could see that his eyes were filling with tears, his lip was trying really hard to stay in. He says to me, "but mommy, i really want her to have this and the bear is going to be so sad because it really wants to go home with us. I want this to be her first present when she's born." Then he continues, "when she's scared at night she can pull this string and then she won't be scared anymore because it will play this music."

Okay, so I credit the bears feelings to the book Corduroy but how could I pass up his deep passion for this bear? Yes he begs for things but I've not seen him get emotional and passionate like that over a toy and especially not over something that is not even for him! Needless to say by the photo, we bought the bear. He named it Beary while we were in the car.

He has been more attached to this bear than his transformer toy. He told me that he was going to sleep with it every night until the baby comes. Then when she's born he's going to give it to her at the hospital. He said that any time she gets scared then he'll go in there and pull the string for her so it'll soothe her. He is truly the sweetest boy. This is going to be one lucky little girl to have such a good big brother.


Tonight, he snuggled with Beary as we read stories. He'd pull her string at the beginning of each book then at the end of the last be (we only read two). At me point he stuck the bear up to my chest and said it wanted to hug me. As the bear laid there playing "go to sleep," the baby started moving around. I told him what she was doing and explained that she can hear things now. We moved the bear down to my belly and he just watched and rubbed my stomach until the song went off. Such a sweet moment.

New Toy

I got this toy at the sale last night. All the kids love this one at church and it keeps them busy for a long time, young and old. I bought it for the baby but a Serif won't stop playing with it! He is going to love all the new toys we pull out of the basement when she gets here.

First Time Consigning

Since finding out we're having a girl, we've started clearing out all the boy clothes we've been saving in the basement. It has felt so good to get stuff out of there and purge! But, it's been a lot of work! I've spent the past month sorting through clothes and shoes to put them in a consignment sale so we can make a little money to spend on the new girl as well as Serif new spring clothes.



I decided to have a pre-sale at our house prior to tagging everything for the real sale. I had four friends to shop and sold a good chunk of stuff. I made $126 from it. I didn't think that was too shabby, especially since everything was $1-3 with very few exceptions. (A special thanks to Melissa and Janice for finding a good wardrobe for bean!). :)



I finally got everything tagged for the forest hills baptist church sale (Kids Bargains) sale and dropped it all off on Tuesday. I ended up with 134 items total. Tonight was the pre-sale for those that put things in the sale and also new moms. I just checked my sales and so far my stuff has grossed $128! I sold 34 items tonight! The split at this sale is 70/30, so I won't see all of that but it's still good and I'm helping their youth go on mission trips this summer. Win win if you ask me. :)



This sale will go on from 7-7 tomorrow and then Saturday is half price day from 7-2. I pick up all unsold items on Monday. I've already signed up for the DCA consignment sale that is the first of April. Anything not sold in this sale will go to DCA. Then I'll donate what's left after that.



This will all have to be done again in the fall since they only accept spring and summer items right now. So, more work ahead. Even if I don't sell anymore right now, I think it's all been worth it. I'm grateful that I gave it shot. This is the start of many more sales for me.



No more going to the basement. Feels so good!

End of day one, public sale: sold 76 out of 133 items. Grossed $274.

End of final sale: sold 97 items, grossed $326.50!

Next sale: DCA, April 3-5! It'll be cake to tag now!

I came across this drawing today. Serif drew it a month or so ago and we can't remember who he was drawing. I thought he did a nice job on it and shows his development well. I'm in total purging mode so thought I'd better record it somehow.

24 Week Appointment

I had my 24 week appointment last Monday. The baby's heartbeat is in the 150's and everything looks good. Her only concern was my hands. At 14 weeks I began to developed carpal tunnel syndrome. I have tried acupuncture and yoga/stretches but it has only helped minimally. She told me she didn't want me to put it off any longer and sent me to a specialist. Her concern was that I may cause permanent damage by letting it go too long. So today I saw Dr Siegel at TOA. She was awesome! I received a cortisone shot in both wrists and should start feeling better tonight. I would say my fingers are crossed but that hurts so we'll just make a mental note of that. ;)
