B-I-B-L-E

Serif's been learning the B-I-B-L-E song this week. We were just singing it and then he suddenly left and came back with a chair. I asked what he was doing and he said, "I got a chair." I then asked what he was going to do with that chair. He managed to stand up on it and said, "I stand on the word of God." Then proceeds with playing and singing the song!

A True Rock Star

Serif came to me tonight and said, "Take my shirt off and play drums?" I don't know where he got that from. We never have him running around shirtless. Ha!

Happy Birthday America!

Thank you to all who have served our country! We are forever grateful for our freedom you have given us and do not take your sacrifices lightly!





Serif has had a week long focus on the flag and our country at school this past week. He was sad when he couldn't find his flag at home, so I had to stop at the dollar tree to find one for him. How can you deny him something that means so much and he is so proud of?

Tonight, we went to East Park to watch the downtown fireworks. It was the perfect location without all the crowd of downtown. We went with our friends Justin and Julee, who discovered this gem of a location last year. We all had such a great time and couldn't have asked for a better night to spend outside. The weather was perfect! Too bad it couldn't have felt like that at the U2 concert Saturday night. We're grateful when we've got it though!

A Monster

Serif has been glued to footage of an Alice Cooper concert lately. In one scene (song), Alice builds a big monster. His eyes are lights and he comes to life and walks around the stage. Alice knocks him over at the end and then he moves to a new song. Serif is always asking to "Watch Alice build a big monster?"

Well, as I used up the last of the oatmeal this morning, I was inspired to make him a monster with the empty container. I pulled together more cardboard and paper and cut holes in the oatmeal container for arm placement. I loosely put it together for him to show him what it was and before I knew it he was knocking down and reassembling bigger and better monsters! He insisted that the rocket become part of the monsters body and that the head would go on the top of it. He soon grabbed his tennis shoes for the monster so he could have feet. It was hilarious and crazy at the same time. He amazed me that he could get this thing to balance so well. More fun with no money spent . . . nice.

Rocket

Ever since Serif laid eyes on the big rocket from the Alabama welcome center, he has dreamed of having a rocket to play with. We've looked everywhere for a decent toy rocket for him but have been unsuccessful. Yesterday it finally dawned on me just how to make the perfect rocket for him. I swooped him up and pulled up a chair to the kitchen counter so he could help me.

We had just run out of paper towels and still had the cardboard tube on the holder. We had also just received a package in the mail that gave us an empty cardboard box. We had construction paper in the closet, so I grabbed the glue, scissors and markers and we went to work. I don't think he could be any more thrilled with it. He has had more fun with this rocket and it cost us nothing but 10 minutes of our time.
