Carousel - Top of Blog

Serif loves riding the carousel at the zoo. However, it was only our last couple of visits that he would actually ride one of the animals. Previously, we'd always have to hold him while also hanging on to one of the poles of the animals.

The last visit to the zoo (last Saturday), he had talked a lot about, "I go to the zoo, ride carousel, ride giraffe." Sure enough, he did. He loved every second of it and never hesitated a bit. The giraffe is one of the few animals that does not go up and down for the ride. I explained that to him when he made his animal selection and he didn't care. He loves the giraffe and had so much fun!

A New Look

I've been wanting to play with the look of our blog for a while now, but have never taken the time to sit down and figure it out. I've been playing for an hour now and I think I'm finally getting the hang of it. Here's where I've landed for tonight but you'll probably see it change from time to time now that I know how to do it. It's actually pretty easy and fun.

PS - Thanks Lila for the inspiration.

A Simple Prayer

Every night when I put Serif to bed, I cover him up and pray with him. Sometimes, he'll start saying, "Pray, pray." or "Mommy pray?" His voice often sounds as though he's worried that I'm not going to do it, but I always do. A lot of times, I 'll hear him whispering a prayer as I pray. It's so sweet.

A couple days ago we were in the bedroom playing around on an air mattress (from our camping gear that we blew up to play on.) He loves to "Go under tent!?!" as I raise the sheet up and over the two of us. This particular day, he decided to pretend sleep. He asked me, "Mommy pray?", so of course I did. Then he wanted me to go to sleep, so I proceeded to play along with the pretend napping. He suddenly began to pray for me. "Thank you Jesus . . . (soft mutter) . . . Mommy . . . make it better . . . amen." It was so sweet I almost cried. My prayers always start with "Thank you Jesus for my Serif." I think I've started my prayer with that phrase since the day he was born. It was so neat to hear him pick up on it and know it like that. It melts my heart.

Today's Quote

Lately I've wished for an automatic video camera that would record every phrase Serif says. He is getting so talkative and expressive that I often tell myself, "I want to remember this forever." We all know how I did with the Photo of the Day and I can't promise a quote every day, but this is my effort to start recording more of what we are getting to hear every day.

Tonight we finished Serif's bath and I wrapped him up in his frog towel and cuddled him on my lap as usual and Jeff began to "drum" on his feet. Since Serif was enjoying this so much, I decided it would be the perfect opportunity to clean his ears. I got the wet washcloth and started cleaning them and he said, "I got toe-jam in my ear."

I've often referred to Serif's sock fuzz as toe-jam. He'll take off his shoes and socks and have sock fuzz between and under his toes. He'll pick it off and say, "I got toe-jam."

Tattoo night at the Godby's

Serif wanted tattoos tonight and then we conned mommy into one too - "one on mommy's hiney!"

and that's all I've got to say about that.

uh-oh

Okay, so this is the day that everybody tells you about, but for some reason you feel your exempt from such occurrence. Fortunately it was just pencil.

I was cleaning the house and doing laundry, Jeff was doing freelance at work and Serif was playing contently by himself. This doesn't always happen so I was taking advantage of the opportunity to get some things done. I was in the kitchen and Serif in the living room when I heard him drumming on the red chair (vinyl). I didn't have my glasses on and thought he had his drumstick so I didn't think anything about it. He continued around the living room, drumming on every piece of furniture. I would catch him drumming on the end tables and would stop him because it's wood and I don't want it to ding up.

Jeff came home about 20 minutes later. Serif was in his playroom and I was still in the kitchen and dining area cleaning. Jeff got to the living room and gasped and said, "What's this?" I said, "What?" I went in the living room with him and saw that every piece of furniture was marked on with a great big swoop of lead. To my great surprise, I didn't get that alarmed and just thought, well, I guess I'm washing the slipcover. HA! (For those of you who really know me, I am normally very uptight about stuff like that and tend to freak out easily, so this reaction was somewhat surreal for me.) My reaction would not have been the same had it been pen, but since it was pencil, I really didn't think it would be a problem to get off of anything. I guess I've learned that with this sofa the worse case scenario would be we'd have to buy a new slipcover and that's very different than buying a whole new sofa.

The red and black chairs wiped clean immediately. The end tables polished up fine, Serif's green lounge chair washed up nicely as well our slipcover for the sofa. Literally every seat surface looked like the above photo. I can't believe I never payed attention to see what he was really doing. The pencil that he used was a large oversized toy-story one that he got for Christmas (Thanks Lindsay! Hehe.) He actually broke the lead on it during his drumming solo. Now I don't care for him to have it since I know he can't mark on anything with it.
