Every Friday at Serifs school is share day where everyone gets to bring a toy from home and share it with the class. Serif loves this day and looks forward to it every week. I've always thought is was a nice idea until last week. Last Friday his buddy Grant brought an incredible Hulk. All we have heard since then has been, "I want an incredible hulk like Grants." I didn't realize until now that maybe share days aren't that great after all. I'm thinking this is just going to make him want stuff. Sigh.
Well, since he seemed so passionate about it (and he is getting in to these types of toys now) we decided to make him a rewards chart so he can earn that hulk he's wanting so bad.
He just moved up to the preschool class last week and one of the things they do in there is collect tickets. They each start out the week with 5 tickets. When they are caught doing something good or making thumbs up decisions, they get a ticket. When they're caught doing something bad or making thumbs down decisions, they lose a ticket. They count the tickets up on Friday and if they have 10 tickets then they get to pick a treasure from the treasure box. These treasures are basically little trinket toys such as happy meal toys.
Jeff and I loved this idea and decided that it wouldn't be a bad idea at home either. He's starting in to this phase of attitude and "mean guys" and has been back-talking more lately. In effort to curb this behavior we thought this might be the perfect set up.
We made a chart and created tickets and an envelope and went straight to work.

Every night we count up his tickets and put a smiley face for above 5 tickets and sad face for below 5 tickets he's made below 5 but has made it up before the nights over. So far so good.

This morning he got up and came into our room and he wanted under the cover. I pulled up the afghan and told him that his grandma Godby or Grandma Dobbins made it. He said, "Grandma Musser?" (she's only one he knows) I talked to him a minute about that and explained who they were.

He then had to use the bathroom and he did such a great job (washing hands WITH soap and flushing without me telling him) that he got a ticket for his "hulk"envelope. When we went to get the ticket, I put a smiley face for yesterday since he had 11 tickets. He pointed to the 3 squares (one at a time) and said, "This is me, this is daddy, this is you, this is grandma Musser, this is grandma Godby, this is grandma Dobbins and this is the HULK!"
