Serif's First Pumpkin Carving

Okay, so Serif didn't really carve this pumpkin, but he did watch and help get all the guts out. Once we got it all carved out we had to take it to the bathroom and turn out the lights to light it up. He loved it! He also learned that the flame from the candle is hot. He would wave his hand over the top hole and say, "Hot." I think he held it a little too close or long at one point because he said "Hot!" and burst into tears. I guess that's how they learn. He was fine, it didn't leave marks or even feel hot to me. I think it just scared him more than anything. If food has any twinge of being hot he won't eat it.

Record Keeping

Added more 10.26 - Tuesday.

Okay, so this post is more for my own records and I will be adding to this periodically as I think of more to state. He will be 2 this Saturday and I can hardly believe it!

He started talking a lot more back in June and July. His vocabulary has exploded over the past few months, and just this week has started putting 3 words together!

He calls:
Helmut - "Nelmut"
He also calls for him and pats his legs and says, "Moan!", for "Come on!"

Bingo - "Mingo"
Monkey - "Mun-tee"
Outside - "Side" I think he's starting to put the "out" in front of it.
More - "Moooaaaaarrr" (I HAVE to get this one on video!) Many times when he says this, he will still sign.

Dizzy - "dizzzee" (Serif has a dinosaur pillow named Dizzy because Jeff would swing Serif around and get him dizzy and he would fall on this pillow.

If he wants your attention while in the kitchen, he says "See? See? See? . . . ." Which translates to "pick me up".

"I see you"
I got you - "I cha-chu"

He will say "BES-soo" (bless you) if you sneeze and sometimes when you cough.
He's great at saying "Peas" (Please) and "Tain-too" (Thank you).

His favorite color is "LEL-low" (yellow) and loves to say "lel-low bus". He likes to describe things . . . white bus, lel-low bus, lel-low guitar. He's getting better with his colors, but when in doubt, it's yellow.

Loves to say grace before a meal. Often times he will tell us "Pay?" (for pray) and will put his hands together and tilt his head slightly forward. He wants us to say it, then he loves to say "A-men." Sometimes we say grace 2 or 3 times. "Thank you Jesus for this food. A-men."

Loves to sit on his potty and stuff toilet paper between his legs, but refuses to go potty if he really has to. When we ask him, he says, "No-No, No." and shakes his head . . . usually has a worried look on his face.

He has a cardboard playhouse in his playroom that has been his favorite toy since bringing it home from Florida. We have unofficially labeled this house, "the poop house". It's the perfect hiding spot for him. If you ask him if he pooped you usually get a shaken head and "No? No? No?"; other times you'll get a grin and a "Poop?"

He LOVES the Predators! His favorite thing is to chant, "Ets - doe - Predelers!" (Let's go Predators) and clap, clap, clap-clap-clap! Pushes his fist in the air and says, "DOE Predelors!" (GO Predators!). Then he says, "Fain Finners" (Fang fingers) and does the hand motion. He also knows the arena building. We pass it every day since it's just next door to his daycare. As soon as he sees it, he starts.

I usually take Broadway home from work and daycare. He loves seeing all the guitars "GEE-tars". When we get to the last one, which is the one at The Hardrock Cafe, he says, "BIG Gee-tar!" I'm trying to teach him different adjectives and the latest is "enormous", that one's great to hear him say, (i'll get back to this one). He still loves his guitar.

He is finally getting in to stuffed animals. He loves to cuddle them in the side of neck and chin with a sweet grin and an "Awwwww . . . "

He goes to bed around 8 or 8:30 and is sleeping later to around 7 or 7:30. Most of the time, we don't hear him wake up. He'll lay in his bed for a while and just rest before getting up. Many times when I peek in on him, he'll peek his head up and stand up with, "Hi Mommy" or "Mornin'" or even "Good Mornin'" sometimes. These statement are stated with a grin and sweet tilted head as he looks at me. He then loves to hug me and ask for his blanket. Most of the time we go back to our bedroom cuddle or play on the bed . . . of which starts the "Nelmut! Moan!"

He doesn't know his numbers yet, but he's trying. He will attempt to count before he jumps from the ottoman to the couch (a new favorite thing to do) and it's usually, "one . . . one . . . . one . . . ". However, he will repeat you if you start counting. Just this week he started saying "Ready? Set? DOE!" (GO)

He will also tell you how old he's going to be if you ask. He LOVES to be asked! He'll say with a big grin and a snicker, "TWO!" and will throw up his fingers (mostly you get the first 2 fingers and thumb). Jeff's trying to get him to do the rock 'n roll sign, but his fine motor skills aren't quite there to allow it yet. Hehe.

He loves to run and will always run with his shoulders up in his neck and elbows back. A sight to see! Haha! We love it! Reminds us a little of Forest Gump.

He's been spitting (with tight lips) lately and it's a quick evil eye from us; he will get time-out for this. When this happens he looks as us and says, "Hi Dad-dee" and give you a big wide eyed look. Even if it's me that's scolding he says Daddy the first time. It's so funny, but we can't laugh! It is working though. Sometimes he spits and doesn't realize until he's just done it. He immediately looks at us with a startled look his face, a pause and a "Hi Daddy."

He loves books and loves to read. One of his favorite books is the one I made last year through Snapfish. It's "Serif - The first 12 months". We go through it and talk about each photo. (Lila - He knows you and says "hair?".)

His favorite toys are: his cardboard house, Predator's hockey stick, William Skellington, Firetruck, guitar and paint/"ca-lor" (color). I just asked Jeff what he would say is Serif's favorite toy, he says "Mommy." Hehehe. He does get clingy.

Another favorite is the iphone game apps and videos that we download from youtube. He loves "Elmo's Monster Maker" app, Baby Einstein World Animals videos, E-I-E-I-O by Peelander-Z (of which he will push his hands up for E, back for I, up for E, back for I and out for O . . . it's great! He still loves Singing in the Rain with Gene Kelly and Good Mornin' with Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds. This photo was taken in our closet while I was getting ready for work. He's not to the point of going to play by himself much yet so he tends to tag along at my shirt tail most of the time.

Meet William Skellington

Our good friends, William, Karla and Fox, gave Serif this skeleton. Jeff helped Serif name him, William Skellington.

These photos were taken earlier this week when Serif grew an attachment to William and started enjoying having him along in the car with him. This particular day was difficult to talk him in to leaving William in the car once we arrived to daycare.

Tonight, we were on our way home from Grandpa's (Pee-Paw's) house and Serif was in the back seat playing with William Skellington. He kept putting his finger in Williams mouth, saying "Bite?"; then would pull it out quickly with big eyes saying, "Ouw!"

I gave Serif cereal and fruit this morning and later fixed myself a cheese sandwich and sat it on the table so I could grab it as we left. I was getting the final things together when I hear, "mmMMMmmmm . . . breakfast.". I look over and he took the top piece of bread from my sandwich. Nice.

More playground shots

Here are a few more photos taken the same day as the slide post. I just thought these were cute and am just now getting around to posting them. It just shows how much he's growing.

He can actually do the ladder all by himself. This is as far as I'd let him go before spotting him . . . and that was only because I had to take these photos!
