All by himself
We were finishing up dinner the other night when I went to the sink to get a wet paper towel to clean Serif up. Jeff decided to take the plates to the kitchen at the same time, leaving Serif at the table by himself for a minute (still in sight as our house is very open). We look over at him and he had grabbed the little bowl of applesauce and spoon that I was feeding him. We both gasped and took off towards him, thinking it was about to go everywhere! In the time it took us to get there he had taken a big bite and scooping another one . . . with NO mess! We couldn't believe it! We knew he loved using the spoon, but also knew he wasn't that great at it. We give him one almost every meal, but he typically just holds it in right hand and eats with his left. He does like it when we stick something on the spoon for him and he will always get it in his mouth really well. I guess he's learning more in daycare than we thought. I think the first thing Jeff told him after this was, "That's it! From now on, you're feeding yourself Mister!". We're really proud of you Serif. Good job buddy!

Skateboarding at 14 months.
Serif has been discovering the guest bedroom lately. We've been keeping that door closed to keep Helmut out of there at night. He tends to get off the bed in the middle of the night, shake and roam, only to come back to the bed and lay down. All this action can wake Serif up, so our solution has been to just keep him out of there. Well, behind the door in the guest bedroom stands Daddy's skateboard. Every time Serif goes in there, he pushes the door closed and points to it. He'll do this until you lay it down and take him for a ride. So . . . Daddy follows through.
